She met Dale while square dancing in Ft. Dodge. Joan was united in marriage to Dale F. Stumpf on January 23, 1954 at Corpus Christi Church, Ft. Dodge. She would meet with friends during the day while her children were swimming in the R.C. pool. She and Dale played bridge with other couples on weekends. Joan helped, for many years, at St. Francis Catholic Church with funeral meals and other parties. Joan had many hobbies, such as sewing doll clothes, creating ceramic dolls, painting ceramic Christmas Town buildings, building wonderful miniature furniture and dollhouses, many which were auctioned off as fundraisers. “As a kid, you focus on your friends rather than their parents. I do remember Joan sitting at the family table, listening to her radio and playing cards. I remember feeling very welcome to come over any time and I was there a lot. We had sleep overs, beauty pageants, badminton and softball in the backyard and always a big tub of Schwan's ice cream in the deep freeze. Joan has an incredible family and so much love as her legacy. Thinking of you all at this most difficult time and praying for God's peace to surround you.”

“I remember Joan from when I'd go out to the farm to pick up Paul and go fishing. She fed me to make sure I had enough to eat (I always did) before we headed to Twin Lakes. There was a lot of commotion in that farmhouse with all the kids, and a LOT of love. I didn't ever see her after Paul's wedding since I had moved far away. I'm sure she will be greatly missed. Love and light to the Stumpf family...”
