Rockwell City- John F. Block, 86, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Visitation and viewing will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, December 10, 2018 at Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City.

John is survived by his wife, Marty Block of Rockwell City; son, Dan (Amy) Block and their children, Maddison and Owen of Shakopee, MN; granddaughters, Abigail Wade of Davenport and Lauren Wade of Tulsa, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Katharine (Hutchison) Block; daughter, Lisa and her husband Mark Wade and brothers, Richard and Bill Block.

John Fedrick Block was born April 17, 1932 in Lake City. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1950. He was united in marriage to Marty Heitner on May 6, 1962. They established their home in Rockwell City. John worked as a real estate and insurance broker with his grandfather, Fred Hutchison and retired after 45 years in the family business. John served two terms as the Mayor of Rockwell City. He was the President of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Twin Lakes Country Club. He was also a member of the Rockwell City Rotary Club. John was an integral part of establishing the Rockwell City Medical Clinic. He loved Iowa Hawkeye football, playing golf, pecan pie, and John Wayne.
